NARS Haul - Sun kissed Gift Set - Casino Bronzer - Galapagos Eyeshadow

I took a trip down to Oxford Street this week and popped into John Lewis, as always I can't walk past a NARS counter without stopping - but I actually went over because I had a few items to purchase. I came away with two items (bronzer & eyeshadow) I needed out of four items (two other eyeshadows I wanted were out of stock) plus a limited edition gift set as a random purchase.

NARS "Sun Kissed" Gift Set
"Get summer’s signature bronzed glow. Medium Pore Refining Primer refines the look of pores and prepares skin while Medium Laguna Illuminator and Mini Hungry Heart/Desire Blush/Highlighting Blush Duo impart incandescent illumination to the complexion."

I always enjoy a NARS product, to date since my first purchases back in 2007 I have never been disappointed by any of their products! So a gift set always is a bonus to have and collect as a treat.

I specifically wanted this gift set because of the products released in it, The size of the Pore Refining Primer is perfect to have in your makeup bag for travelling and so is the Laguna Illuminator handy for holidays, the blush and highlighting duo is brilliant so you don't have to carry a seperate blush and highlighter in your kit.

Sun Kissed Kit Contains:
Pro Prime Pore Refining Primer - I've previously tried NARS 'Pro Prime Multi-Protect Primer SPF 30/PA+++' which I reviewed here, I liked it but I'm definitely on the market for a pore refining primer so this new one in the kit will be a handy one to try. I will do a review on this in a few weeks once I get some good daily use out of it to be able to review it properly. 'Pro Prime Pore Refining Primer' is a new and permanent product at NARS.

Laguna Illuminator - I have to admit this is my first time trying out a illuminator from NARS, even though I love their products to death liquid highlighters is not my thing I do prefer powder ones, but being NARS and a multi-purpose illuminator I'm glad I got this in my kit, definitely worth it due to the handy size and a little goes a long way, I can use on my cheeks as a highlight, brows or collar bones mixed in with moisturisers! 'Laguna' is a permanent product at NARS.

Blush Duo Hungry Heart/Desire - I have quite a few NARS blushes in my collection but one I hadn't got round to purchasing is NARS 'Desire' which is permanent. But considering this kit had the 'Desire blush included; this again was a reason to purchase it. I like to carry a bright blush in makeup bag to change my look especially after I've been on a plane! The final deciding factor to take the kit was the fact that this duo included a highlighter. Usually I haven't seen any NARS blush duo kits as a permanent staple in their collection just limited edition sets get released occasionally and considering I missed out on those it was time I got my paws on one! Glad I did and I will do a FOTD of this combination soon. 'Desire' is a bright bubblegum pink blush with a matte finish, 'Hungry Heart' highlighter is cream shimmer which gives a nice glow, however this is a limited edition highlighter featured in this duo.

NARS "Casino" Bronzer
"Bronzing Powder creates the ultimate healthy glow. Diffused powders with golden shimmer create an all-over warmth or contour for the face perfect for creating or enhancing the look of tanned skin. Finely milled powders fills in lines and pores for smoother, more even looking complexion. *Iconic shades ideal for all skin tones * Natural looking, imperceptible finish * Subtle shimmer adds glow."

'Casino' bronzer is "A diffused deep brown powder with golden shimmer", I own Laguna bronzer which is a little lighter, Laguna is perfect for the winter months if you want a lighter tan glow, I wanted something a little stronger so decided to go for 'Casino' this time as I've used Laguna so much over the years throughout the whole year so it was time for a deeper tan change!

This bronzer really does give me a summer glow and the shimmer isn't too apparent when transferred onto the skin, I apply like all my bronzers in a number three motion starting at my forehead, sides of face, temples, contour my cheek bones and down to the contour of my face/neck. A seriously beautiful deep tan with no horrid orange tones, but because my skintone is NC42 this only enhances my complexion rather than giving off any muddy red/orange colour.

I've only had the bronzer 2 days but I cannot wait for some sun to hit the UK! And use this bronzer, Laguna has been my fool proof bronzer for many many years and the featured pan is my second one in five years! I'm hoping to get the same kind of use with Casino!

NARS 'Galapagos' Eyeshadow
"Lumionous, light-reflecting shades for shading, highlighting, and lining eyes. Highly pigmented, longwearing, crease resistant colors that can be applied sheer or layered for more dramatic effects. Color glides on smoothly, evenly and blends effortlessly. *True color application, *Can be applied dry or with a dampened brush for stronger intensity. *Multi-funtion use for shading, highlighting and lining the eyes *Sophisticated, luminous shades."

My first ever eyeshadows from NARS were 'Galapagos', 'Mekong' and 'Night Clubbing' which I bought back in 2007! I finally hit pan on them and went to re-purchase them however 'Mekong' and 'Night Clubbing' were out of stock so I'll be picking them up from somewhere else. But I managed to get my most favourite everyday eyeshadow! 'Galapagos'.

'Galapagos', is described by NARS as a 'bitter chocolate infused with gold'. When applied to the lid it's very intense, so what you see if the pan is what you get and definitely chocolate. If you pat it on the gold glitter applies well but not as harsh as it appears in the pan, this shade can also be blended to give a subtle brown shimmery colour. The eyeshadow is smooth considering the glitters in it and NARS eyeshadows are known for their long-wearing and crease resistant formulas and I can confirm this is so very true! The swatch in the picture is a light one and the intensity can be built up.

Just so you understand the NARS eyeshadow formulas; NARS have four categories:
  • Shimmer Collection"Luminous, light-reflecting powder for shading, highlighting and lining eyes."
  • Night Series Collection"Ultra-pigmented, high-impact signature shades with sparkling pearl shimmer."
  • Cream Collection"Lightweight, easily blendable cream shadow for shading, highlighting, and creating dimension with vivid color."
  • Matte Collection"Highly pigmented, velvety-matte, ultra-fine powder for shading, creating depth and lining eyes"
Galapagos falls into the Shimmer collection category - a beautiful and pigmented gorgeous brown shade for everyday use!

NARS is my weakness and I can't resist their products! The reason I love the kit so much is usually you get products where one or two items are useful and then you get a few which are not so useful, this kit has everything I haven't got! And the two in one compact will come in handy quite a bit for travelling.

The smaller than normal but larger than trial/sample size products in the kit are a nice way to try out products because you get more use out of them before you decide to buy full sized versions, sometimes with sample sizes there isn't enough product to fall in love with a product. Plus these particular ones again will be handy for travelling I don't have to use them I can keep them till I go away.

But the nice thing for summer if the UK gets any is a little 'Laguna' illuminating/bronzing, highlight and bright blush with 'Hungry Heart' and 'Desire' and lashings of mascara - a simple sun kissed look! and if I want my look to go for a night out then Galapagos sweeped on my lids and 'Casino' for deeper bronzing and sexy contouring! The Sun Kissed kit is limited edition and available Exclusively at John  Lewis for £35.00

Love Love Love NARS!
